Ancorché non sia altrettanto diffuso e comune come gli altri elementi trattati finora, molti modelli presentano, in genere associato al loro meccanismo di caricamento, un fondello che copre la parte posteriore (intesa rispetto al pennino) del corpo della penna. Si tratta di un elemento non sempre presente, in quanto per molte penne la terminazione posteriore fa semplicemente parte del fusto della penna.
